The title European Capital of Culture is a prestigious award granted annually by the European Union to one or more cities with the aim of fostering cultural development, creativity, and international cooperation. Slovakia has joined this program for the second time – Košice held the title in 2013, which brought significant cultural and infrastructural growth to the city.

Trenčín has been awarded the title of European Capital of Culture 2026 with the ambition of transforming the city into a dynamic space for art, creative initiatives, and community collaboration. It will not be just one exceptional year full of events—the goal is a long-term transformation that will leave a lasting impact on the city and the region.
